President's Column

Welcome to summer! I hope your academic year went well, and that you enjoy the season ahead.

I hope that those of you who attended the MiALA Annual Conference in May enjoyed it. Preliminary feedback shows that attendees thought the programs were very strong. Some folks expressed concerns about the space, food, and other matters, which will help guide the 2018 Conference Committee members in their work planning next year’s conference in East Lansing. All in all, I think the conference was a success, and I thank everyone involved with it—from the planners and volunteers to the presenters and attendees.

I wish to congratulate those of you who were just elected to the 2017-2018 Board of Directors! I look forward to working with you in the coming year. To the other nominees, thank you so much for running for various positions. I hope you will seek out leadership roles in Interest Groups and volunteer for our standing committees. Together, we’ll make MiALA thrive.

It has been my pleasure serving as your president this year, and I know Jessica Sender will be a great president. I look forward to continuing to help MiALA grow and benefit all academic library personnel in Michigan.

MiALA Annual Conference Wrap-Up

Thanks to the 180 attendees and presenters who attended MiALA's second
annual conference in Grand Rapids. Overall, we think things went quite
smoothly! Conference evaluations were overwhelmingly positive, and
we've shared all suggestions for improvement with next year's planning
committee, so that the 3rd annual conference can be even better!

Several presenters shared slides, posters, or handouts with us. Feel free
to take a look:

We're already looking forward to next year's conference at the Kellogg center at MSU!

If you presented at the conference and would like to provide access to your poster or presentation, send your files to heather@miala.org.

MiALA is Sharing Code on GitHub

As a result of the Website/UX Interest Group meeting at MiALA's annual conference, we decided to collaborate on a GitHub channel within MiALA (see https://github.com/Mi-ALA). Anyone with Internet access can view our content.

This will serve as a repository for library codes, hacks, and other technical information developed by the Website/UX Interest Group (with a focus on website development and user experience).
