Call for Advocacy Committee Volunteers

If there has ever been a time to advocate for libraries and librarians, it is now!

MiALA is seeking volunteers to join the Advocacy Committee. Charged with providing resources and education about critical issues in academic librarianship and libraries in Michigan, the Advocacy Committee’s work is in line with and in support of the work of ACRL and ALA, helping librarians highlight and demonstrate best practices, host workshops, collaborate, engage communities, and raise professional awareness. For more information or to volunteer, contact Aaron Kilgore at akilgore@hillsdale.edu or Kalyn Huson at contact@miala.org, or complete the Committee Interest to Volunteer Application.

Message from the President

Greetings!

I hope between welcoming new students and returning to our busy semester schedules everyone was able to enjoy the last days of summer. With the fall semester well underway, don’t forget to check the MiALA website for upcoming events and use the MiALA Member Area to see your Interest Group activities. And a quick reminder that the Data Literacy Mini-Conference registration is now open.

Good luck this semester and please reach out if you have any concerns or questions for the Board.

Best,
Carin Graves

MiALA Annual Conference - Save the Date!

We are already looking forward to our 2023 Annual Conference at the Haworth Hotel and Conference Center, located on the campus of Hope College in scenic Holland; Wednesday, May 17 through Friday, May 19!

As this will be our first face-to-face conference since 2019 we could use a few more hands and minds to help welcome our members back to in-person engagement and networking, and make this the most memorable conference ever.

Also, have you heard or seen a dynamic speaker in the past year and thought “hmm, this would be a great keynote or presenter for MiALA!”? Feel free to share your suggestions and contact the Conference Planning Committee at conference@miala.org. Watch for a call for proposals and more details as plans progress!
