This panel will discuss librarians' experiences with the Institutional Review Board (IRB) when conducting their own research and interacting with compliance personnel.

For many librarians, who often enter the field with limited research experience, a common challenge is feeling anxious or uncertain about navigating the IRB process. This panel aims to break down the complexities of IRB by having experienced librarian-researchers share their journeys of guiding projects through the IRB process. Key topics of discussion will include:

- What is IRB and why should librarians care?
- How to get started with IRB.
- Navigating IRB while working with librarians at other institutions.
- Experiences with IRB at different types of colleges and universities.
- Insights into IRB experiences at various types of academic institutions.
- How librarians can demonstrate value and commitment to the research enterprise through engagement with an IRB.
- The different types of IRB reviews based on project type, such as exempt vs. non-exempt.
- Lessons Learned: What panelists wish they had known or done before starting a project that requires IRB review.

This will be a 90-minute panel and include time for questions from the audience.
